The 1985 Yangtze River Cruise Conference

On May 12, ICC’s Director General Cao Wenlian and his team visited the World Bank's Beijing office to meet Bert Hofman, the World Bank's Country Director for China, Mongolia and Korea in the East Asia and Pacific Region. The two parties had warm and friendly exchanges on cosponsoring the forthcoming Yangtze River Cruise Conference.

Cao briefed Hofman on ICC’s preparatory work for the conference, and invited the World Bank to be a cosponsor. Hofman spoke highly of the 1985 conference, and gladly accepted ICC’s invitation on behalf of the World Bank. The International Conference on Macroeconomics in Commemoration of the 30th Anniversary of the 1985 Yangtze River Cruise Conference will be held from June 28 to July 1, cosponsored by China Society of Economic Reform (CSER), International Cooperation Center of National Development and Reform Commission (ICC-NDRC) and World Bank. At present, a number of famous Chinese and foreign economists and scholars have confirmed their attendance.

During the conversation, the two sides discussed specifics about preparing for the conference. Hofman put forward a few concrete proposals and suggestions, and expressed the wish to help ICC to further expand the international influence of this major conference on macroeconomics.
