ICC Deepens Cooperation with Nansha District of Guangzhou to Jointly Promote the Development of the Guangzhou-Hong Kong-Macau Greater Bay Area and the Belt and Road

Recently, Secretary of the Party Branch and Director General Huang Yong of ICC met with Member of the Standing Committee of Guangzhou, Director of Nansha District, Secretary of the Party Branch of Nansha Development Zone and Director of the Management Committee Cai Zhaolin. Deputy Director General Yi Bin chaired the meeting and Director Zhang Jiamao of the Development and Reform Bureau of Nansha District and Director Pan Xin of the Research Office of ICC briefed the participants on the progress of the cooperation between both sides. It was agreed that broader as well as deeper cooperation would be developed in the future.

The Meeting

The Nansha District of Guangzhou, as the state-level new development zone, the pilot area of free trade, the demonstrative area of the comprehensive cooperation among Guangzhou, Hongkong and Macau and the sub-center of Guangzhou, is a strategic spot of the larger area. In recent years, Nansha has been dedicated itself to the establishment of modern industrial systems, pushed ahead with the strategy featured with “hub+” and served as a supporting zone for the quality development of the Guangzhou-Hong Kong-Macau Greater Bay Area in areas such as technology innovation, shipping, trade and financial services. The pragmatic cooperation between ICC and Nansha has an innovative approach. ICC will bring its role as a state-level think tank into full play and work jointly with Nansha for the development of not only the region but also the Guangzhou-Hong Kong-Macau Greater Bay Area and the Belt and Road.

Cai said ICC and Nansha had enjoyed friendly relations for a long time and in the process of Nansha’ development the ICC had provided valuable support to the region. It was hoped that both sides could take this opportunity to develop extensive cooperation and especially deepen the cooperation on promoting the development of the Belt and Road. Huang Yong pointed out in the concluding remarks that ICC would continue to work with Nansha, the vanguard of China’s reform and opening-up efforts, to promote its greater development through further explorations. He stressed that focus could be put on the cooperation in five areas: (1). Work for better performance on the existing base; (2). Hold up to the right direction; (3). Bring various advantages into full play; (4) explore the right approaches to carrying out different tasks. (5). Set up the template for development.
