Director General Huang Attends the China-Australia Strategic Economic Dialogue and the Belt and Road Investment-Friendly Index News Conference


On 24 of September, the China-Australia Strategic Economic Dialogue and the Belt and Road Investment-Friendly Index News Conference were held in People’s University of China and more than 50 experts and scholars from Chinese and Australian government departments, research institutions, financial institutions and think tanks participated in the meeting. Director General of ICC Huang Yong, Vice President of People’s University Liu Yuanchun, Dean of the School of Public Policy of the Australian National University and Father of APEC Peter Drysdale, Director General of Investment of AIIB Supee Teravaninthorn spoke at the Dialogue.


Vice President Liu Yuanchun and Peter Drysdale delivered opening remarks on current global political and economic situations and the status quo of the economic and trade relations between China and Australia. Professor Dai Wensheng and Luo Yu, on behalf of the Belt and Road Research Center of the University, released the 2018 Belt and Road Investment-Friendly Index. Supee Teravaninthorn spoke on the current and future situations of infrastructure cooperation in Asia.


Huang spoke highly of the Index and pointed out that the Index was very timely under the backdrop of intensifying global economic and trade situation and its specific indicators, detailed indexes and scientific approaches had played a guiding role in promoting Belt and Road construction. Huang, at the time of the upcoming 5-year anniversary of the Belt and Road initiative, delivered the keynote speech under the theme of “Deepening Practical Cooperation, Promoting Common Prosperity and Advancing the Steady Progress of the Belt and Road Construction”. In the speech, he shared views on the progress, mechanisms and future work directions with the participants based on the experience he accrued during the past years.

Huang stressed that in an effort to promote the steady progress of the Belt and Road construction, the focus should be put on achieving mutual benefits and development opportunities, developing practical cooperation and jointly overcoming difficulties, upholding the principle of common development and objecting to the zero-sum game, learning from each other, benefiting the people, pushing ahead with innovative development and bringing the leading role of R&D into the full play.
