K-China Cooperation Forum on Healthcare Technology and Education Successfully Held in London


The UK-China Cooperation Forum on Healthcare Technology and Education sponsored by the International Cooperation Center of the National Development and Reform Commission and China-British Business Council was successfully held at the London School of Economics. Director General Ou Xiaoli of Social Development of NDRC, Director General Huang Yong of ICC, Chief Scientific Adviser John Loughhead to Department for Business, Energy and Industrial Strategy, Chancellor of Manchester University Dame Nancy Rothwell, CEO Matthew Rous of the China-British Business Council and etc attended the forum and spoke at the meeting. More than 140 representatives from relevant government departments of the UK, companies, financial institutions and industrious associations were also present. Participants to the meeting showed great willingness to take part in the Belt and Road initiative and further enhance the China-UK relation in the golden era.



At the forum, Ou gave a keynote speech under the theme of Healthcare and High Education in China in the New Era: Achievements, Challenges and Reforms. He pointed out, since the reform and opening-up 40 years ago, the health level of the Chinese people has increased greatly and the health industry and high education have made great achievements. In the future, priorities should be put on the increase of health cooperation levels, the improvement of healthcare technology and the expansion of the width as well as depth of the cooperation on the field of education. Huang delivered a keynote speech under the theme of the Formation of a New Belt and Road Platform of the New Era and an Enhanced Golden Era between China and the UK. Huang said, the UK has remained a staunch supporter and a natural cooperation partner ever since the Belt and Road initiative was proposed. We are willing to work together with different nations to inject new contents into the golden era of the China-UK relations with an open, inclusive, win-win and pioneering spirit to form an enhanced Golden Era for the relation between China and the UK. Huang also made 4 suggestions on future cooperation: (1) to enhance policy communication and implement the ‘golden policy achievements’ between China and the UK; (2) to enhance the matching of development mechanisms and facilitate the ‘golden mechanism channel’; (3) to improve the quality of the platform and introduce the high-end China-UK ‘golden resource platform’ (4) to implement the projects constantly and gather ‘golden benchmark projects’.



The speeches given by Ou and Huang were highly spoken of by the participants and speakers from the British side who gave speeches on the new cooperation opportunities between China and the UK under the Belt and Road initiative and new cooperation spots with a relation to healthcare, technology, education and etc. as well as other areas with common interests.



Lastly, the delegates attended the inaugurating ceremony of the China-UK Tech Park and witnessed the success of the new joint venture projects. The forum was chaired by Head of the Education and Innovation Division of the China-British Business Council Nathalie Cathet-Gaujard and Head of the Industrial Development Chang Feifan of ICC. Relevant Personnel from the Social Development Department of NDRC and ICC also participated to the forum.
