Zimbabwean Delegation Headed by His Excellency Ambassador Chikawa Visits ICC-NDRC

On March 13, HUANG Yong, Director General of ICC-NDRC, met with the delegation led by Paul Chikawa, Zimbabwe’s ambassador to China. The two parties discussed in-depth on further deepening the pragmatic cooperation between China and Zimbabwe and exchanged opinions on the preparations for the visit of Zimbabwean President Mnangagwa to China in April.

HUANG Yong first welcomed Paul Chikawa and pointed out that under the guidance of President Xi Jinping Thought on Socialism with Chinese Characteristics for a New Era and the spirit of the 19th CPC National Congress, ICC-NDRC will promote the cooperation of production capacity between China and Zimbabwe in accordance with the overall arrangement of NDRC. ICC-NDRC would spare no efforts to strive for the cooperation in various industries. HUANG Yong stated that in order to effectively implement the important achievements of President Xi Jinping’s visit to Zimbabwe in December 2015, ICC-NDRC and Zimbabwe have carried out effective mechanism building and coordinated advancement of cooperation between China and Zimbabwe in terms of mechanism implementation, policy design, training and exchange, and project promotion. China and Zimbabwe have established a relationship of mutual trust and friendly cooperation. Pragmatic cooperation has also yielded outstanding results. Finally, HUANG Yong made a four points suggestion for preparing for President Mnangagwa's visit to China and advancing the pragmatic cooperation between China and Zimbabwe: First, sort out the list of Sino-Zimbabwean capacity cooperation projects as soon as possible and work hard to promote the high-level visits. Second, further promote the substantial progress of the Sunway Special Economic Zone project jointly established by Gansu Province and Zimbabwe and further enrich the results of high-level visits. The third is to explore the establishment of the center on promoting the Belt and Road cooperation for China and Zimbabwe in order to build the information sharing platform for policy guidance, project promotion, financial service, risk prevention and control. Fourth, we should further consolidate the training programs in both China and Zimbabwe and give full play to the role of the platform in achieving exchanges and cooperation between two countries in deeper and wider areas.

His Excellency Paul Chikawa first expressed his warm congratulations to HUANG Yong as the successive director general of ICC-NDRC and appreciated his positive contribution to promoting cooperation between China and Zimbabwe in the past two years. He said that the Zimbabwean government and people sincerely appreciate the great initiative of the Belt and Road and the important work of NDRC in promoting the Belt and Road and international capacity cooperation. He pointed out that for more than three years, the two parties have worked together to play an extremely important role in policy design, project promotion, official training and successful exchange of visits between two countries. The two parties should jointly plan and promote key projects and pragmatic cooperation in various fields, taking the advantage of President Mnangagwa’s visit to China to further advance the institutionalization, focusing on key areas such as mineral resources, manufacturing and finance.

Zimbabwean Minister-Counselor to China Mugabuku Dolby, Mawes Spandah and Mark Kachingo, Special Assistant to the Director General of ICC-NDRC and Director of Planning and Capacity Cooperation Department GUO Jianmin attended the meeting.
