ICC Jointly Holds the 2nd Belt and Road Initiative Davos Roundtable

  On January 24, along with the 48th World Economic Forum (WEF), the second Belt and Road Initiative Davos Roundtable, co-sponsored by ICC-NDRC, Tsinghua University and Trade and Development Organization of UN was held. Dignitaries, business leaders, experts and scholars from nearly 20 countries along the Belt and Road initiative discussed in depth under the theme of "Belt and Road Initiative: New Globalization and Regional Cooperation."
Director-General of the Trade and Development of UN Mukhisa Kituyi, President of Tsinghua University Qiu Yong, Director General of ICC and Co-Secretary General of Davos Roundtable Cao Wenlian addressed in the Roundtable. UN Deputy Secretary-General Liu Zhenmin, Pakistani Foreign Minister Khawaja Muhammad Asif, Mongolian Minister of Foreign Affairs Tsogtbaatar Damdin, Minister of the Prime Minister's Office of Thailand Kobsak Pootrakool, Vice Governor of Sichuan Province in China Zhu Hexin, , Qi Bin, Deputy General Manager of China Investment Corporation, Chief Executive of Japan Bank for International Cooperation Tadashi Maeda, Executive Vice President of Chia Tai Group Hongbo and etc. attended the meeting. Secretary-General of the Davos Roundtable and former Vice President of the International Monetary Fund Zhu Min presided over the opening ceremony.

Belt and Road Initiative is the road for mutual benefit and win-win between China and the world
In his speech, Muhessa Kituyi said that the Belt and Road Initiative is one of China's biggest contributions to the new globalization. The initiative emphasizes the concept of inclusive development, advocates the multilateral cooperation framework, finds a new way of globalization, and represents hope for a new type of globalization. He said he is full of confidence in the prospects of the development of the initiative.
Qiu Yong said that the Belt and Road Initiative has brought about tremendous benefits to the countries that responded and participated in. His university has the advantage of personnel training and technological innovation and can play a greater role in the initiative. Tsinghua University has taken an active part in jointly promoting the Belt and Road Initiative and has signed cooperation agreements with 46 universities from 21 countries along the route to carry out institutionalized personnel exchanges and educational cooperation and is committed to enhancing people-to-people exchanges along the road.
Cao Wenlian said in his speech that the Belt and Road initiative is a global initiative for the joint development proposed by President Xi Jinping, for promoting a new type of globalization. A series of fruitful results have been achieved over the past four years that fully proves that the Belt and Road initiative is based on mutual benefits and win-win results.
Liu Zhenmin said that the Belt and Road Initiative provides new ideas, new impetus and a new form for regional cooperation and globalization. The United Nations considers this initiative an important part of the global 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development and a catalyst for promoting a new type of global substantive initiatives.

Khawaja Muhammad Asif said the Belt and Road Initiative is the most transformative initiative in modern history of mankind. The CBA has the honor of being part of the flagship project. The construction achievements have changed our country.

Tsogtbaatar Damdin presented that the Belt and Road Initiative is in the Mongolia's interest, conducive to promote free trade and economic growth, and would help to maintain peace and stability in Eurasia. Mongolia would support and be able to make positive contributions to the initiative.

Zhu Min noted that the Belt and Road Initiative is a concrete manifestation of China's support for globalization and global cooperation and is an important contribution made by China to improve global governance..

Zhu Hexin said that the Belt and Road Initiative not only builds an important platform for the win-win development of all countries along the line, but also ushers in a rare opportunity for Sichuan Province to open up and accelerate its development.
Lancang-Mekong Cooperation is a Regional Model of the Shared Destiny proposed by the Initiative
Kobsak Pootrakool noted that for the ASEAN countries, the Belt and Road is the most important initiative. Through interconnection and reciprocality, the Lancang-Mekong countries have become more economically linked and their regional trade relations have been improved. He said that Thailand and China should continue their close cooperation in the Initiative to promote common development and prosperity.

Zhan Xiaoning said that with the global investment plummeting and the slow trade growth, the Belt and Road Initiative would undoubtedly drive global capital to flow and become a new hot spot for global investment. Lancang-Mekong Cooperation is the focus of regional cooperation in the initiative and would play an important role in promoting cooperation in Southeast Asia and enhancing inclusive development.

Yang Yuying pointed out that Lancang-Mekong Cooperation has been fruitful and an important part of the initiative. It has become a vital move to build common prosperity between China and its neighboring countries. She also suggested that in accordance with the model of "multi-country and multi-function-park", a platform and carrier for the pragmatic cooperation of Lancang-Mekong cooperation should be set up.

Tadashi Maeda showed that the Initiative would provide enormous business opportunities. Under this initiative, Japanese companies could make full use of their respective advantages and cooperate with the third countries to achieve win-win-win results. He said Lancang-Mekong area would be an ideal place for enterprises both from China and Japan to implement the win-win business model.

Hongbo said carrying out the third-party market cooperation is a new model for international cooperation. The ECC project, jointly carried out by Charoen Pokphand Group and ITOCHU, is expected to become a fine model for Sino-Japanese cooperation.

Jonathan Woetzel said that Lancang-Mekong Cooperation, as the New Oriental Express, would catalyze an unprecedented bond economy in the area. The cooperation of pilot area among China-Laos-Thailand is expected to be replicated in the area and even in the ASEAN region.
The Belt and Road Initiative Davos Roundtable was established in January 2017 by ICC-NDRC and Tsinghua University. It is an international conference regularly held during the winter Davos WEF aiming at better communication of the awareness and achievements of the initiative.
During his stay in Davos, Cao Wenlian held separate exchanges with Ian White, executive vice president of the University of Cambridge, and Zhan Xiaoning, director of the Investment Department of the Trade and Development of UN. They reached consensus on the next step and other key topics. Participants from ICC included Yang Yuying, secretary general of academic committee, Guo Jianmin, director of planning and capacity cooperation department, Tao Zhen, executive director of institute of Globalization.
